Camellia in the Rain

61 x 91.5 cm | Hosokawa Heritage Kozo Paper, Pigments
I brushed Camellia in the Rain in a mid-February week of wintery weather. The delicate camellia petals defy the elements of rain and wind with remarkable endurance and grace.
I wanted to express resilience and beauty, strength and delicacy so I used my largest calligraphy brush and a watery mix of titanium white for the petals. The details of the bright yellow stamens are painted with an elegant writing brush to give dimensionality. The backdrop, pure Madder Lake Pigment, provides a rich and earthy contrast with a raindrop-like effect, enhancing the vibrancy of the camellia.

This original and unique artwork is painted on handmade Hosokawa Heritage paper. Through layering colours and textures, I invite viewers to immerse themselves in a sensory experience that transcends words, evoking emotions and memories unique to each individual.

The piece is fixed to a simple wooden batten with the title and my signature on the back. There is a clear thread attached for immediate display as a focal point in a living space or as an accent piece in a curated collection. I like the interaction of breezes and light with this free hanging method but if you would prefer another way of framing I can remove the batten prior to posting. The banner is rolled into a cardboard container for posting. Free postage world wide.
